Anyone may become a member, but it would be a bit silly to join if you do not like A Tale of Two Cities, as it is the focus of this group. To join, simply click the “join” button at the top and you shall be automatically approved.
To become an admin, request the position and/or send a note to ~mare-of-night. There are no set responsibilities for admins yet, as the group is still new and has never had more than one admin.
Gallery submissions should be related to A Tale of Two Cities. Art in any medium is accepted, and gallery submissions are approved automatically.
UPDATE: Art by non-members used to be in the favorites, but is now in the process of moving it to the main gallery. If you want to submit art without joining and the gallery hasn't been set to accept non-member submissions yet, leave a comment with a link to your deviation. Also, note that being titled "A Tale of Two Cities" isn't enough for a deviation to be considered fanart - the piece must relate to something in the book, not just the title.
Below is a list and explanation of the folders in the gallery. For the most part, they are organized by theme.
Sillies: humorous things
Crossover and Random: works that are related to A Tale of Two Cities, but also include other elements or are very strange
Comics: pictures with multiple panels
Drawing and Painting: visual art that does not fit elsewhere (includes digital paint)
Crafts and Costume: nearly anything three dimensional
The QBARK Series: a series of drawings that QBARK made; no longer open for submissions
More folders will be added as needed. If in doubt, submit your work to “featured” and a moderator shall decide where to place it.
The favorites gallery contains nearly all the A Tale of Two Cities fanart on DeviantArt. Feel free to submit anything that is missing, including your own work.
A great deal of the art tagged as A Tale of Two Cities has very little to do with the book, and is not in the favorites gallery for that reason. The rule of thumb is that things that contain characters or situations from the novel probably belong there. In general, works that were inspired by A Tale of Two Cities in a way that is not obvious in the final product, or contain quotes from the book but are otherwise unrelated, usually do not belong.
Some of the art in the favorites gallery is not especially high quality. This gallery contains a great deal of bad poetry (among other things), much of which was created because someone’s English teacher told them to. You have been warned.
The blog is the main means of communicating with the entire group at once. Submissions are automatically approved, and you may post anything that you think will be of interest. Here are some ideas to get you started:
A Tale of Two Cities observations and discussion questions
announcements about personal projects related to A Tale of Two Cities (Keep these fairly infrequent, and confined to big projects.)
contests and contest ideas
Do not worry yourself too much about our guillotine; we can be flexible, and will return your head to you if it is missed. Just be respectful and do your best to put things where they belong.
